A Tight Ship!

Concept Art

...is what I saw on the Laughing Pan booth at Gen Con Indy. I was so impressed by their presentation, I offered my services right out. Though they are only in the business of printed and boxed game products, it just so happend that they were in need of a miniature ship as a playing piece to go with their hit title "Plunder!". So far the tiny parts are coming together well. This will be produced in plastic however, so the details will naturally be lacking.

Crunch Waffle Enterprises
September 27th
African Healer
Maori Warrior
Crunch Waffle Enterprises has contacted Satyr Studio to sculpt a pair of interesting and out of the ordinary pieces. A Maori Warrior and an African Healer. Given the subject matter, Drew intends to give these pieces a natural and realistic feel, with free reign to draw directly from whatever cultural images exist. More info on these figures will be forthcoming as they are completed.

Acheson Creations
September 27th
Acheson Creations has been recieving requests for an officer figure to go with the troops Satyr Studio provided this past Spring. We are intending to go for pure character with this single piece. And drawing his appearance directly from a historical photograph (or two).

Top Secret Project!
September 27th
Aegis 28mm
Gauntlet 28mm
Gloth 28mm
Well not so "Top Secret" that we couldn't let you have a peek. But the manufacturer will not want the games rules, title, or even the business name to be in the general public at this stage. It can be said that Drew is quite psyched about this particular order however, since he gets to design the entire starting series himself. The opening set will present three science fantasy factions; the cyborg battle units Aegis, the warrior alien species Gloth, and the human fighters wearing Gauntlet suits.

Gen Con Indy 2005
September 27th 2005

Gen Con Indy was great! The Saturday Sculpting Class was well recieved and we had alot of fun at the demo booth as well. To all those who stopped by and attended, a heartfelt thanks. We were quite sorry to not have the talented Kim Graham demo sculpting with us this year, But hopefully we could snag her for the next one.
Many new and old faces were seen at the annual sculptors meeting too. Pictures were taken, and perhaps we can see them posted online soon.

Last year's Frothers Unite! Sculpting Contest was a resounding success. As some of you may recall, the designated theme was "Alice in Wonderland" and Drew's White Knight submission was given high praise by both the fans and the judges. This years contest seems bound to attract many more professional and private talents than the last. As a wonderful twist it has been organized in a partnership with the famous Chick Challenge Painting Contest ( Which is going strong in its fifth year!). This years theme: Female miniatures... that women would buy! Some other male sculptors choked on the difficulty, or openly scoffed at the expectation, but being a self-professed feminist, Drew found the theme very refreshing in a hobby business where the sculpting end is so male dominated. After asking friends and family for advice (and checking his work schedule) Drew decided to sculpt not one, but three figures at once as a complete set. The Three Aspects of the Celtic Goddess; Maiden, Mother, and Crone. To ensure that the figures are given the best attention to their female form, the nude under sculpts are done complete before the clothes and other details are added (Yes, even the Crone aspect.)

Great News! Drew's submission has been chosen as top winner in its category. This means that, for a limited time, everyone will have a chance to own a copy. See the contest page for details on how to get yours!

Gajan Vasco for Iron Kingdoms
March 28th 2005

Developmental Green - Painted by Alison McVey
Like the craggy hills and boggy moors, the people of Ord are rugged, weathered, and difficult to tame. Many a sell-sword or gun-for-hire has a past rooted in the kingdom of Ord.

Once a member of the mercenary company known as the Talons, Gajan Vasco now travels western Immoren in search of the right job for the right pay. Currently he calls home the docks of Corvis, City of Ghosts. .He has been known to frequent the Falling Star in recent memory and some whisper that he has an interesting past with the tavern’s owner, but that has only been heard as a whisper.

Here is a figure we sculpted for Privateer Press. On the far right is the final painted version (image from the Privateer Press Website) He should be in stores with the Iron Kingdoms line soon!
